comment - it seems if the routines that update the metadata were
taken out of ubh and moved over to ubhcatalog, the "log" produced
coulld turn into a sql query and have options to be more robust. It
would continue the seperation of database management and fetching, if
that's the direction it's going. I realise some information like
filename is not avialable until fetched.
