backup -- only backing in certain scenarios.

Hello,
I am hoping someone can give me some advice on 'backup' using unison. I 
have a client/server setup with 
          backup = Name *
I run: 
unison /my/secret/drive ssh://client//my/secret/drive

Scenarions:

   1. Place a file in client, unison sync file to server. Remove the file 
   from *server*. On next unison run,  file is backed up
   2. Place a file in client, unison sync file to server. Remove the file 
   from *client*. On next unison run,  file is NOT backed up
   3. Place a file in server, unison sync file to client. Remove the file 
   from *server*. On next unison run,  file is backed up 
   4. Place a file in server, unison sync file to client. Remove the file 
   from *client*. On next unison run,  file is NOT backed up 

It seems like when I remove files from 'server', the backup option works on 
the next unison run. However, when I remove a file from client, the backup 
does not activate. 
How can I backup a file when it is removed from the client side?
