More: Compatibility issues

Sorry Tõivo, I would like some further clarification regarding my 
previous message (copy below) as I have very little systems understanding.

In the Migration Guide, you speak about Client Versions and Server 
Versions, but if I understand correctly there is only one unison program 
which can be installed on the "Server" (the machine initiating the sync) 
or the "Client" (the machine being remotely called for the sync)?

If I get 2.52 or 2.53 installed on the server, do I understand that it 
will be backward compatible with 2.51 or 2.48 installed on the client 
machine, irrespective of the OCaml version of the client unison, 
PROVIDED that I regenerate the archives files (your wording is hazy 
since it says only that "same OCaml version" is needed for 
interoperability).

In view of what you said I would like to upgrade my unison from the 
2.51.5 ocaml 4.13.1 which comes with my Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to 2.52 or 
2.53. I understand that either of the latter will be backward compatible 
with 2.51 and 2.48 (and thus with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS which I have on a 
legacy machine).

I certainly do not want to get into compiling - not worth the learning 
effort for me.

The documentation on the CI binaries says that their Ubuntu is "probably 
20.04, and will likely work on other x86-64 machines with compatible 
dependencies". Does that mean that there is some chance that the 
binaries will not run on 22.04?

can't see where to actually get the CI binaries, or to see with what 
ocaml version they were compiled (would be nice for you to add this 
link, unless it is there and I missed it).

If I upgrade should I first uninstall the prepackaged unison? Will the 
new unison version show up in the Syaptic package manager or do I just 
have to remember that it is there? I assume that if ever there were a 
problem I could simply reinstall the prepackaged version (that it won't 
disappear from the Synaptic package manager?

If I want to upgrade with minimal risk (with the idea of having a stable 
installation for several years), should I try 2.52 rather than 2.53, or 
would it be best to go immediately for 2.53?
