Re: 2.53.4 RC1 !!

I have merged NEWS updates and trivial fixes to .depends and
.gitignore.   There are new artifacts, but I suspect they are
identical.  I don't think it makes sense to retest if you did already
but if you haven't yet and do, might as well use this.  Just add https:
in front, because this list inserts who knows what into links.

Release is planned for Saturday, unless a regression from 2.53.3 is
discovered.
