I tried searching for "ubuntu ntfs problem". There are a (to me)
surprisingly large number of Stackexchange questions about corrupted
NTFS partitions. I even ran into this answer, claiming that there's a
more or less repeatable way to corrupt an NTFS partition:
https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/617400/can-linux-corrupt-the-data-on-an-ntfs-partition/683918*683918__;Iw!!IBzWLUs!RJioNkqyPqn2ik5Ee-tClXZ4JkaKV7GWkiP7sNI05W66SQh9tXZBakj1RkfYh60n5ZE18yH2_EQhI0GED9L5wVfdcjQ$
So I suspect there is a sporadic problem in the Linux NTFS support.
