unison's CI no longer tests against 2.48. That doesn't signal an intent to break/remove the compat code. Today, there is no "rip it out" proposal on the table. However, if you still run 2.48 and depend on the compat code: We are well past the time when anyone should be running 2.48. Really, nobody should even be running 2.51, and everyone should be on 2.53.5. It doesn't make sense to use CI resources to check something that both shouldn't even be in use and has tiny odds of breaking. I'm not aware of it catching anything since the time the compat code was fully shaken out and became stable.
