Okay. Looks like mod_ssl installs a self-signed certificate, so using /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.crt/server.crt in your RHNS-CA-CERT file works. I was initially puzzled because up2date was able to dry run but the silly applet thing didn't work to tell me that I needed updates. Then I looked at the applet code and discovered that it is connecting to a completely different RPC space that Current doesn't yet support.
