Could you subscribe to the users list at current.tigris.org? This list
is about to go away.

As to your question, its certainly possible (I know yum has success in
this area, up2date should be able to do it as well). 

You'll want to test it very carefully before trying it in real life. In
my particular case, we re-kickstart the box.
