no i686 support?

I was wondering why the documentation in current.conf said:
# arch = The cannonical architecture (a family of archs that this
# channel supports. (i386, sparc, alpha. Not i686, etc)
I think my problem lies in when I try to connect from a 7.3 machine.
The servers' error log gives:
...
Mar 07 07:20:38
/usr/share/current/packagedb.py:getCompatibleChannels({'client_arch':
'i686', 'client_release': '7.3'})
Mar 07 07:20:38 /usr/share/current/packagedb.py:_getCannonArch({'arch':
'i686'})Mar 07 07:20:38 Result is a Fault
Mar 07 07:20:38 (/usr/share/current/current_apache.py,
sendClientResult(), 253): Data sent.
Mar 07 07:20:38 sendClientResult() finished
Is there a way around this?
Thanks,
~Matt
