stupid newbie question

Ok, I just downloaded the RPM today, read through the FAQ, README, and
various things in the /usr/share/doc/current* directory, and still
having some problems.  I followed the install.txt up to the point where
you edit the current.conf and add channels.  My config looks like:

valid_channels = redhat-71
log_level = 55
http_port = 8080
https_port = 8081
port_number = 8082

[redhat-71]
label = redhat-7.1-i386
name = Red Hat 7.1
parent_channel =
arch = i386
os_release = 7.1
description = Red Hat Linux 7.1
rpm_dirs = /home/dwittenb/redhat-7.1
src_dirs =
db_dir = /home/dwittenb/redhat-7.1/i386/current

I tried to add the channel, and get this:

I figure I have missed something simple, but can't seem to find it. 

I was also curious about why this isn't scalable?  I noticed several
places in the docs that it talks about this being for the small/medium
sized set of clients, and was curious what the limiting factor is.
