However, for instance in rhn_register v2.8.28-2.7.3
There is
# Where do we keep the CA certificate for RHNS?
# The servers we're talking to need to have their certs
# signed by one of these CA.
if cfg.readEntry("sslCACert"):
rhns_ca_cert = cfg.readEntry("sslCACert")
else:
rhns_ca_cert = "/usr/share/rhn/RHNS-CA-CERT"
Which says that the sslCACert value in the config should do what you
want.
See if you're missing that value in /etc/sysconfig/rhn/rhn_register -
if the value isn't there, the default still points to
/usr/share/rhn/RHNS-CA-CERT
