You have to have version 2.7 of the client or later. 2.5 used a
different API than 2.7, and all the earlier versions used a different
API than 2.5.

Red Hat appears to have back ported both 2.7 and 2.8 versions of up2date
to Red Hat 6.2, 7.0, etc etc.

Use that version. (Yeah, you'll have to apply those updates by hand, to
get you bootstrapped to the point where Current/up2date can do the
work.)
