Well, I guess that's the problem the "Advanced Workstation" (or was it
"Professional"?) is supposed to solve. It is supposed to have the same
life-cycle as the corresponding release of the "Advanced Server".

If I were you I'd re-install (kickstart) student classroom machines on
a regular basis anyway. So there's not really a problem to switch to a
new dist
ribution after a year.

Of course I don't know the constraints in your environment, so YMMV.
