I think maybe I had to kill the session and start over. This reminds me of a problem I was having with a conflict of SSH port forwarding: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/vnc/list/51451 I think maybe that was a cause of the weirdness we are now discussing. I know it was happening for someone using :12, and thus 6012.
