Problem in listen mode

Which the difference among the 2 situations?

To leave the vncviewer in listen mode and to use in the server the command:
WINVNC -CONNECT IP*

*IP is vncviewer PC

To leave the vncviewer in listen mode and to go in the server, in the option 
ADD NEW CLIENT and to add IP of the viewer

Because I am having the following problem when I use the first. In the it 
conspires where it is VNCViewer in listen mode, appears the message:

Connection failed - Error reading Protocol Version

Possible causes:
-You've forgotten to select a DSMPlugin and the Server uses a DMSPlugin
- Viewer and Server are not compatible (they use different RFB protocoles)
- Bad connection

Use RC19.4 and server and viewer
