Beginner's Question

I was disappointed that I could not find a simple step-by-step procedure that would allow my wife to access her work computer (on a small LAN behind a router) from home (on a very small LAN behind a router).

When I say "simple", I mean something that a Windows user could follow without having to look up other stuff.

If you know of one, would you please send it to me or tell me where I can get it?
