Wireless bridging recommendations

I have a hot spot with a problem.  The coverage area has a hole in it in the center due to shading caused by the metal roof the antennas are on.  Far-field (75M and out) is great.  The simplest solution seems to be to add a bridge about 100M away that has a sectorized antenna to better illuminate the shaded area.  (The sectorized antenna will also see the existing AP very well too.)

1.  Does this seem to be a reasonable approach?

2.  Are there any bridges that will work with a run-of-the-mill 802.11b AP so I don't have to replace my existing AP (which is already in the weatherproof enclosure and working reliably)?

3.  If I do have to replace my existing AP, is there one system that appears to be more reliable than others?

I would prefer pointers to equipment that has a a higher normal operating temperature as I will need to put it in an enclosure exposed to the element.  (Low temperatures are not a problem here. :-)

I am prepared to pay a little more to get reliable equipment.  Reducing support headaches is more important than saving a few dollars but I am not prepared to go overboard.
