Yes, but I have not tried GPSdrive.

I installed the standalone GPSd source from Russ Nelson's site:

I've had good luck with a Garmin using the generic NMEA mode, and mixed
results using a Delorme Earthmate that only supports Rockwell Binary
protocol (unlike the Tripmate, which can be tricked into doing NMEA).
