you'll see a small 'w' in the top left box of the dstumbler display if the
network uses WEP.

Look at the docs in the BAT distribution; I seem to recall that there's not
any reliable way to tell, but collecting packets regardless and feeding them
to dwepcrack will generally get you a WEP key.
