There are two different DWL-650 cards. One of them has a Prism2 chipset, and
the other has a Prism2.5. The first was sold as a card capable of 40-bit WEP,
and the latter as a 128-bit WEP card.
The first (Prism2) has some problems and I could not use it as an access
point. The Prism2.5 card works, but it hangs with WEP enabled. I am using it
as an access point with no WEP, using IPSec.
This is the identification for the Prism2.5 card as seen in "dmesg":
wi0 at port 0x240-0x27f irq 11 slot 0 on pccard0
wi0: 802.11 address: 00:05:5d:5c:24:01
wi0: using RF:PRISM2.5 MAC:ISL3873
wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.00.07, Station 1.03.05
My /etc/start_if.wi0
ifconfig wi0 inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 ssid ARNOR \
stationname NENUIAL media autoselect mediaopt hostap
And my ifconfig output:
%ifconfig wi0
wi0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255
ether 00:05:5d:5c:24:01
media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect <hostap> (DS/2Mbps
<hostap>)
status: associated
ssid ARNOR 1:ARNOR
stationname NENUIAL
channel 7 authmode OPEN powersavemode OFF powersavesleep 100
wepmode OFF weptxkey 1
The old card (Prism2) seems to have problems; I cannot use it in my laptop
(Toshiba Satellite 220CS) while the Prism2.5 works well (without WEP).
Regards,
Borja.
