In addition to letting you just plug in a broadcom card and be off an running, v3.1 seems to have broken interoperability with hostap mode in 4.x and broadcom clients (including apple's own airport extreme). 5.1-current seems to be fine. I've just spent 2 weeks at apple wwdc helping with the build out of the wifi for the conference and met many of the folks at apple doing wifi stuff. I'm going to dump a box with a freebsd based ap software (surf and sip) and was wondering if anyone else wanted to get me an image of there AP. This box will likely live at apple and be tested against for future driver releases so this is a good opportunity. Hopefully this will help with these issues in the future.
