since I am a little bit involved in the 100$ laptop project:
my latest knowledge is that there will be some 802.11s OLSR meshing
inside the marvell chipset (in the firmware!). 
Meaning: when the laptop is closed, the thing
will still act as a mesh node :)

But the laptop.org info changes so quickly... better check it out on irc.
