important: upcoming election annoucnement

hey all.

this is an organizational update on personal telco.  as you've probably
all seen over the last months personal telco has been in a time of growth
and change.  we've reached that point where our loose and informal
management systems are starting to become more harmful then useful, and we
need to rapidly grow into our new skin.

also as some of you may know my term as president of the nonprofit comes
to a close in august.  when we formed the nonprofit lucas' and michael's
terms were set for two years and mine for one.

partially due to other commitments, and partially because i believe there
other people who can better provide the leadership now required, i will
not be renewing my presidency for a second term.  as such we need to have
an election, and to have an election we need members.

this is all going to happen in somewhat of a rush, but here's the rough
plan.

* at the board meeting next tuesday we will be finalizing our membership
  agreement and board nomination policies.

* at the next monthly, and from every weekly and monthly meeting there
  after, we will be accepting membership applications.  to start with the
  only benefit of membership will be the ability to vote, later we hope to
  offer other incentives.

* we will also begin accepting nominations for presidential candidates at
  the same time.

* at some point we will close the nomination period and allow candidates
  to begin "campaigning".

* at the july monthly meeting the candidates will have X minutes to
  talk in front of the meeting and at the end there will be a vote
  by all the *members*.

* at the august monthly i will step down and the new president will assume
  their responsibilities.

this is very incomplete and we're rushing to figure everything out, but i
wanted to get some info out to you as soon as possible.  there will be
more information after the board meeting next tuesday.

we've all come a long way together, i'm proud and grateful for all your
contributions.  if you have any suggestions, thoughts or advice we'd love
to hear from you.
