KATU Website Offers Baseless Wireless Security Advice

Hey folks,

A couple weeks ago, I noticed this tidbit on the KATU website:

Briefly, the advice in this links suggests that a program called  
Roboform "will encrypt data you transmit over the net"

A quick glance at the Roboform specs, confirmed what I suspected,  
that the only encryption this program provides is on the user's hard  
drive, to protect the passwords it stores.

I contacted the woman who was listed at the bottom of the page. She  
had evidently done a morning segment on KATU about ID Theft and this  
posting is associated with her appearance. She claimed that KATU  
wrote this, and she had nothing to do with the specious claims. I  
suggested that she request they remove it, as what is presented on  
the KATU site is patently false. I cc'ed KATU's editorial desk on my  
initial communication as well.

PTP is an educational organization, and as such we have an interest  
in countering misinformation in the media. I suggest that those with  
a free minute shoot an e-mail to KATU asking them to remove this  
dangerously false advice.
