I'm pretty sure my uncle has comcorn which means he can't share (legally).
We could still
bring up a node and have it just talking OLSR and looking (waiting) for
neighbors.

You can create a potential node by clicking on the map. It will ask for
some info and send you a confirmation email...

Yeah, I've got an oldish WRT54G that is currently un-used. I need to
upgrade to a newer version of OpenWRT, though...

I'm skeptical about BATMAN. Documentation seems to be non-existant.

Those in PTP playing with mesh have strayed away from roofnet because
clients on different nodes are isolated from one another (NATed). This makes
a roofnet network only useful for getting upstream to the internet, and
hence,
is at odds with the goals of community wireless networking. Given that, I'd
say OLSR is the better choice.
