It was a dying disk, part of a raid1 array.  Aaron suggested I just
unplug the dying disk and that magically "fixed" it for the time
being.  We'll need to swap another one in at some point not so
distant, hopefully.  Next time I'll even take a screw driver with me.

Donk is back online, and with it the ptp web server and various minor
other things.  Thanks for your patience.
