Internet TV Station in a box

I just spotted this item in the CNET blog: http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9825035-7.html

Apparently, it's a 4U device that takes a traditional video stream  
(not clear if that's digital, analog or either) and encodes it for  
streaming IP-broadcast. The rather sparse product details on the  
manufacturer's website indicate that a single unit can create 4  
streams, and the CNET article says that the box itself can only host  
10 connections, but that there is some system using peer-to-peer  
networks that has been used with 20,000 connections.

All-in-all, it looks like it's a product that is still under  
development, but could be a means of creating and broadcasting content  
over community/municipal networks, which is something that has been  
discussed and attempted in various incarnations in PTP.
