I wouldn't consider their Customer Support response to be the final word in
this matter.  Their GPL code page lists the source for the WRT54GX
(http://www.linksys.com/support/gpl.asp), as such it may very well be
possible to customize the firmware to do WDS repeating, client mode and
other useful things.  I have not looked at the source to see how similar it
is to what was provided for the WRT54G/GS routers.
