IEEE 802.16-2004/ETSI (WiMAX) systems use WOFDM and OFDMA plus TDD/FDD as the basic modulation scheme. Someone questioned whether WiMAX's suitability to do digital video. The high bandwidth requirements of HDTV make it impractical for such service using 'mega-cell' WiMAX deployments. But WiMAX technology, specifically OFDMA, is designed to provide DVB/VoD. OFDMA has also become the international standard for use in new generation satellite based communications systems. Perhpas the leader in OFDMA technology and contributor to 802.16 is an Israeli company namd Runcom: http://www.runcom.com/company_page.asp?info_id=2 The answer to the question as to whether WiMAX is suited to provide DVB/VoD and 'Triple Play' IP services is "it depends on how it is deployed". If WiMAX is deployed in microcells with sufficient fat pipes or local data stores/servers, then it will be able to provide sufficently high bandwidths to individual users.
