Particularly if you are running 10base-T (rather than 100BT) Ethernet in an electrically quiet location (like inside a piece of PVC garden pipe that you've buried in the ground) it should be fine. I would recommend that you try this first, with good quality Cat5E cable. It will probably work. If it doesn't, there are VDSL-type Ethernet extenders that run 10 Mbps 5,000 feet or more on a single pair, and you could add these on to the cable you installed. If you are only extending a Direcway connection and not doing high speed streaming between your two houses, an SDSL-type Ethernet extender (www.netsys-direct.com for instance) will work. How is the Direcway working for you?
