Re: What can I do with a WRT54G

	Linksys used to have a bad reputation, Not many on the list would have 
recommended doing a Linksys based setup before the intro of the WRT54G, 
now some people are even recommending(& using) them for long distance 
links w/ hacked firmware.    Ever since they've been bought out by 
Cisco(coincidence?) I've been impressed by their gear, I've owned a 
WRT54G v.1.1, a WRT54G v.2, & WRT54GS & they've all been loaded w/ many 
dev firmwares multiple times.  I returned the v. 2 after it was 
"bricked" by flashing it with a forked build Sveasoft build, only 
problem I ever had & it might have partly been my error(late at night, 
multiple attempts, etc.,).  Linksysinfo.org has links to free software 
builds as Sveasoft is sort of a subscription model, there are many 
opinions about Sveasoft for sure.  I haven't used the other firmwares, 
but hear good things about them.
	I've been able to get the WRT54G to play well w/other Broadcom 
gear(Apple, Belkin, Buffalo) i.e., acting as a client, WDS, etc.,  It'd 
be worthwhile to drop $30 on a pair of RP-TNC 5db antenna that are 
usually in stock at Radio Shack.  These give you a 3db(a "doubling") 
advantage over the stock rubber ducky's.  Many people use the 
alternative firmwares to boost the power, the antenna's are a good way 
to boost the rx and tx performance, w/o radically boosting your radio.  
Linksys just introduced there own replacement antenna, but these are 
usually priced way too high $60 or so & seem like they would make the 
WRT54G top heavy & be obtrusive.
	I'm really excited by the WRT54AG(not the WRT WRT55AG).  As it uses 
the Prism Duette chipset which has been open sourced for the "B" & "G" 
part of the radio in addition to having an "A" radio chip.  Linksys 
doesn't even feature it on it's product page & I didn't see any 
firmware for the unit in the support area.  Who knows what their deal 
is re: this unit.
