My experience in a WDS system, at night, is 36-54 mbps between a central
hub WRT54G v2.0 at 84mw and a node WRT54G v2.2 at 28 mw, with the
connection usually evenly split between 36 and 48 mbps, with -68 to -71 db
rssi on the node.  During the day, the connection varies between 18-36mbps,
evenly split between 24 and 36 mbps.

The flash and RAM on WRT54GS units is larger 8mb flash/32mb RAM.  The
WRT54G units have the 4mb flash/16mb RAM...except for a few that actually
have 32mb chips on them that can be converted via changed NVRAM settings
into a 32mb WRT54G.  The risk is currently high, as if you change those
NVRAM settings on a router without the physical 32mb chips in it, you brick
the device (albeit recoverable by the JTAG technique).
