It's probably a dead cell.  The same thing happened to my powerbook, and 
even my Thinkpad before that.  This sort of thing happens to batteries 
when you keep them plugged in all the time.  Laptop batteries like to be 
charged then drained.

Unlikely.  It's possible that they will if it's within warranty or you 
have applecare, but it's really a normal usage thing. batteries die.
