fCC 3650-3700 MHz ruling

Looks like I was wrong about ease of adoption of 3500 MHz spectrum WiMAX gear to the recently opened 3650-3700 spectrum. The FCC has called out use of contention based protocols to allow open use of the spectrum. This is one of the frailties of unlicesned spectrum: it needs to use protocols that mitigate open access. OK, that seems only fair. Use of WiMAXm would have allowed more efficient use of spectrum and better quality of service, but the ruling leaves open adoption of a new version fo the 802.16 MAX, probably under 802.16h. And that will take time. The 802.16h task group handles WiMAX unlicensed spectrum. Alvarion's Marianne Goldhamer is the co-chairperson of TGh and word from Alvarion is that defining a MAX for 3650-3700 could take 1-2 years. Better late than never.
