Re: Linksys rebates

I don't recommend that people make decisions based on the branding on the
box.  All the brands have had some products that were simply lousy in
performance and while other products performed quite well (just take a look
at various wireless forums around the net).  Linksys is no exception,
although their WRT54G (at least through v3)and WRT54GS (at least through
v2) routers have been very good (careful, variations on these names...such
as WRT54GC, WRV54G, WRT54GP, are not included in that statement).  I have
also had good results with their WPC54GS PCMCIA cards.  One product I did
not have good results with was the Belkin USB 802.11b adapter...lousy drivers.

So, basically, when talking about good or bad products I suggest people be
product-specific (and even version specific) as there can be a lot of
variation under a single brand, and under a single model product name
(witness how the Linksys WET11 and WAP11 changed between versions

DLink played a similar
switch-the-chipset-while-leaving-the-product-name-alone game with some of
it's 802.11b cards where a Rev. A card would be from one chipset maker and
a Rev B. card would be a whole new chipset maker.
