is the wrt54g(s) still the router of choice for mods?

Is the WRT54G and WRT54GS still the wireless router of choice for installing homebrew firmware on? I would like to get one to use as my cable router, and another one to share my home network and cable connection with the neighbors.

I am in the process of setting asterix, does anyone have experience with the WRT54GP2, the wifi router with two voip ports? I am up in Vancouver so the versions sold here aren't locked to Vonage.
