With what I've read about the Soekris 4501 and what I know of running production firewall/VPN servers on OpenBSD over the past few years, the specs of the 4501 are pretty meager for handling a lot of users/traffic unless you've got simple needs or a pretty small user base like a SOHO or small icafe environment. When building firewalls from x86 commodity hardware, I've found comparisons to the Cisco PIX to be useful for spec comparisons when considering the user base and bandwidth requirements: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisco_PIX. For an office of 60-80 people and a 10Mb circuit from Time Warner, a 433Mhz P3 is sufficient for a base install that runs nothing more than pf and pptpd.
