I've been thinking of playing around with some mobile location ideas.
>From my limited understanding, the handheld device is aware of the Cell ID
of the tower it is "attached" to; but is there a database out there
somewhere
which can map this Cell ID to its location? The FCC ULS database of
registered antenna structures lists their FCC ID, but not the
Cell ID that the tower reports to the phone. My guess is because the Cell ID
is an internal network ID. I'm on Cingular's GSM network.
Any thoughts, ideas, etc. would be appreciated.
