Re: embedded linux motherboards

The $5 FON router is just a WRT54GL running a customized version of the 
open-wrt or dd-wrt firmware. I believe "hacking" the firmware on these 
is as simple as loading a new firmware image via the built in web admin 
interface. The problem is that you get the $5 router by signing up for a 
1 year contract and they reserve the right to bill you the cost 
difference if your router isn't functional a significant amount of the 
time. Apparently these things have a heartbeat signal they send out, so 
if you unload their firmware prior to the first year, they will know.
