It almost sounds like the AP in client mode can only deal with one MAC
address at a time. An easy way to deduce this would be to put both
machines behind a device running NAT and stick that behind the client
mode AP. If they both work when behind the NAT device then its
obviously a layer2 problem with the client mode AP.  Have you checked
to make sure that both devices are running the latest firmware? It
sounds like a firmware bug or short coming to me.
