One thing to note is you can't weatherproof a BNC. N and SMA are screw type connectors, and can easily be sealed. I have another wifi project going that I suppose I should finish. ;-) I took a USB type wifi unit and removed the antenna with the idea of mounting a SMA hardline on it, which could be screwed to the back of the anntenna with a SMA to N adapter. [The chipset doesn't work with netstumbler, so I lost interest in the project, though it could still be used for communications.] Note that you can get SMA on hardline in surplus shops. This may be another way to avoid having to stuff the coax in the pipe.
