I just happened to file a bug about that,
$ apt-cache policy wwwoffle
wwwoffle:
  Installed: 2.9-1
$ wwwoffle https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?id=617
wwwoffle[11361] Warning: Cannot request protocol 'https'.

Maybe Paul didn't compile it in?
