Using this alias works for me (small test case of a few pages) using
Firefox.

I would guess from the error message that Opera is doing something to
the request that causes it to get modified before WWWOFFLE can see it.
You need to capture some debugging output from WWWOFFLE and see if the
request is getting through and if it is handled correctly by WWWOFFLE.
