I visited an URL and saw that the page is chached 2 months ago, so I
pressed Ctrl+R in ELinks to see if there is a new version, but I saw a
404 instead.

I have keep-cache-if-not-found = yes
I see that there is a backup version in
/var/cache/wwwoffle/http/www.foo.bar/Dczq+BTDvo2GB05XIiEevPg~
but how do I revert to it (without manually renaming that file to
delete the ~)

In the browser I see the webservers 404 page.

Ctrl+R again doesn't bring the page back.

It's strange I don't see the WWWOFFLE
HTTP/1.1 410 WWWOFFLE Requested Resource Gone
page, which is in
/var/cache/wwwoffle/http/www.foo.bar/Dczq+BTDvo2GB05XIiEevPg
now. I just see the webservers
The requested URL / was not found on this server.
page.
