WWWOFFLE and apt-get

I note that (as a Debian Newbie) my ventures into downloading packages
from a Debian mirror with "apt-get install" also result in some unneeded
entries in the WWWOFFLE cache. I believe that this can be avoided if I
disable my $HTTP_PROXY prior to invoking "apt-get".

Any undesirable side effects if I go down that path?
