I just noticed this was hard to understand, let me correcit it:

so much more 'inside'.  Disks turn faster 'outside', in relation to the reading head. I think you can imagine. I also heard of the thumbrule that the inner area would better fit for storing many small files (because of the small phyisical sectors) where large files are better stored int he outer area. However (and since HDs have many heads) the outer area always is significantly faster with anything, on my box.
