FYI, xinetd-2.3.11 compiles cleanly on the identical hardware running 
Solaris 9.    

I'm not sure that it matters but both 2.3.11 and 2.3.12 configure script 
detects the gcc compiler output to be a.out instead of elf.   Compliling 
2.3.11 results in an elf executable.
