This is a bug in the xinetd build. An applications should
not get that intimate with the OS. I think it was put there
back around the 2.0 kernel 2.2 transition to detect a libc
5 problem. We all run glibc 2 or higher now so this hack
should be deleted. Besides, if anyone was running a libc 5
system, xinetd would never compile with all the IPv6 stuff.

The short summary of your whole experience. I am running a
version of xinetd without the final 120K sized patch...so
that would be pre-2.3.12 cvs. I cannot duplicate the
problem based on what you've given me. I tried setting
things up like you have and I don't get segfaults.

As Matthias said, it would be helpful if you can track down
the addresses with gdb or valgrind. With a line number, I
can have a patch for you quickly.
