There may be problems with host name lookup.
Either because /etc/resolv.conf contains a nameserver that you cannot 
reach when using zcip (because of link local address) or that your 
hostname in /etc/hosts has an IP address that does not match the zcip 
obtabined IP address.
I assume that you without zcip uses DHCP or static IP address, where the 
  hostname matches the IP address used.

You can test this by setting the IP address obtained by zcip in 
/etc/hosts before your hostname.

Example:
- Start zcip
- Obtain your hostname with 'hostname'
- Obtain your zcip IP address with 'ifconfig'
- Make sure the followin line exists in /etc/hosts:
"<zcip IP>  <hostname>"
- Try to ssh to another machine on the local link, by using IP address
