Rather ambivalent about software patentability and he even applauds the RSA
patent. I don't think he really understands what he is saying and if he does,
that is even worse. Knuth himself was much clearer in his letter to the PTO:

as I'm sure you knew already. I can think of several eminent mathematicians and
scientists who have shown a willingness to make public their views on 'political
matters' before and who I am sure would see more clearly the evil of
software patents than Ullman has.
